Le rêve de mon grand-père series

2003

“It’s a staging of the way of life I experienced as a child, a way of life that has since often haunted my dreams. Through my photography I interpreted what my grandfather wanted me to become: a healer and village leader. I did it to pay homage to my grandfather and to honour him. In this work, as in all my works, I am both character and director. I don’t put myself in the photographs: my work is based on specific situations and people I am familiar with, things that I desire and things that I draw up in my imagination and which, then, I interpret. I borrow an identity.”
